The issue of proper phasing of undulators when two or more are installed in the same straight section has been investigated for the Advanced Photon Source (APS) storage ring. Whereas proper phasing is important for a zero emittance beam to avoid destructive interference, it is less so for a real beam with finite emittance and energy spread. Further, when the real magnetic field of the undulators is taken into account, the effect may be reduced farther, especially for higher harmonics.
Results from numerical simulations will be presented using the beam parameters and the measured magnetic fields of representative undulators at the APS. We will also discuss the effect of proper end-tuning to keep the trajectory straight between the undulators.
